What is Perplexity AI?

Why I Built This Add-On

The inspiration for this tool came from Anthropic’s Claude for Sheets, which demonstrated how powerful large language models (LLMs) could be in enhancing spreadsheet capabilities. While Claude for Sheets offers fantastic business applications, it lacks the critical ability to connect to the internet for real-time data. That's where the Perplexity API steps in. By integrating Perplexity, which uses cutting-edge LLMs like Meta's LLAMA 3.1 (405bn) that that perplexity has optimised for search (called Sonar Huge), this tool offers the best of both worlds—real-time web access and advanced AI-driven content generation. The Sonar Huge model, specifically designed for search tasks, gives this add-on unprecedented capabilities in bringing up-to-the-minute insights directly into your spreadsheets

How It Works

This user-friendly tool leverages Google App Scripts to connect your Google Sheet to the Perplexity API. Simply input your Perplexity API key, which you can easily obtain by signing up for a Perplexity account at perplexity.ai, and you're ready to go. Perplexity Pro users get $5 per month in API credits.
